Girls Fast Pitch Scarlet Softball Rules:
Revised 5/3/10

1. Players will pitch, 4 balls = walk, 3 strikes = out.
2. An inning will consist of 3 outs or 5 runs.  (There will be a 5 run limit per inning, with the exception of the 5th & 6th inning, where there will be a 10 run limit)
3. The hitting rotation will consist of the entire roster; the following game begins with the batter following the last out from the previous game (continuous rotation).
4. 9 players will play in the field per inning (3 outfielders), each team may play as few as 8 if short handed.
5. Games will be either 6 innings or 2 hours; there will be NO new innings after 105 minutes (top of the hour)
6. When the ball is returned to a defensive player in the infield, players must return to the base closest to them, either forward or back.  In general, don't take the extra base, if the ball is in flight to the pitcher, a runner will not advance.
7. We will have one paid umpire for the scarlet league.
8. Safety is the primary concern; therefore no one is required to play 1B or Catcher or Pitcher.  No player should sit twice in a row and all players should play at least 1 inning per game in the infield.
9.  Batters and base runners must wear helmets (with face masks) at all times.  Players may bring their own helmets, but they have to have a face mask.
10. Regulation fast pitch softball bats must be used and must have the appropriate marking indicating so.
11. A 12" neon green softball will be used.
12. In case of injury, the next batter in the rotation will hit.
13. Catcher must wear all protective equipment.
14. Pitchers may re-enter the game once.  Pitchers cannot pitch more than 4 innings during a game, they can pitch 4 in a row.
15. The batter is out on a dropped third strike.
16. Where a potential play may occur at a base, a runner has three options, she may: 1) return to previous base 2) slide, or 3) avoid the fielder. A runner may not make intentional contact with a fielder; result is an automatic out and possible ejection.
17. The scarlet league will be allowed to steal.  A lead-off cannot happen until the pitcher has released the ball. In order to regulate the steals and to make pitchers and catchers better, steals will only happen if the ball gets past the catcher.  If a player is stealing home and the batter doesn't get out of the way, the runner will be out!  Lead offs can and are encouraged to happen after every pitch. A defensive coach will help umpire the field to see if a player leaves early.  If a player leaves early, the team will get a warning.  Anyone leaving early after the warning will be called out.
18. Anyone throwing the bat will get a warning for the whole team after the first violation.  Anyone throwing a bat after the warning will be called out.
19. At coach's discretion, a player may be benched or suspended with approval from the league director.
20. In case of bad weather, please check the website, www.firstfriendssports.com.  Should bad weather arrive during the game, players will be asked to wait in their car for 10-20 minutes to see if game can be continued.  If unable to continue, it will be up to the coach's and league director to see if the game will be rescheduled (depending on where the game was postponed).
21. Any rules not covered above will follow the ASA and will be the judgment of the League Director whose decisions are final.
