*Please note that, with some particular skills, the boys technique and girls technique are a little different. Therefore, please note that there are specific videos for our girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse players.

Points of Emphasis:

1) Lacrosse requires a player to be right and left handed. It may be tough, but work this drill throwing with your right hand and left hand.
2) Catch the ball with the stick in front of you so you can “absorb” the catch.
3) Use proper hand positioning on stick when throwing: see video.

WEEK #2 (After June 22 Practice) – FUNDAMENTAL CRADLING
Points of Emphasis:

1) Practice Cradling on the move. In lacrosse, we never cradle without a purpose
2) Top-Hand Dominant when cradling.
3) Maintain good hand positioning on the stick.

WEEK #3 (After June 29 Practice) – FUNDAMENTAL GROUND BALLS
Points of Emphasis:
1) “Both Butts Down!” When you go down for a Groundball, get your butt down then when scooping up the groundball, put the “butt” of your stick down.
2) Run through the Groundball… don’t stand still once you have it.
3) Cradle through the groundball. In Point 2, we said to run through the groundball and whenever you move on a lacrosse field, you cradle.

WEEK #4 (After July 6 Practice) – FUNDAMENTAL SHOOTING
Points of Emphasis:

1) Get elbows out from your body… don’t “crowd” your shot
2) Make sure that the stick is up… don’t drop the stick head back behind you or the ball will fall out
3) B.E.E.F. – Balance with body square to the goal, Elbows out from your body, Eyes looking at your target and Follow Through toward your target.

WEEK #5 (After July 13 Practice) – FUNDAMENTAL “DODGING”
Points of Emphasis:
1) Keep the stick up and down (vertical) as much as possible. When dodging, players can begin to lose focus in stick position and drop the stick down to horizontal, resulting in a lot of dropped balls.
2) Feet are important when dodging. Note that, on a dodge, you will always step to the side opposite you plan to go, with your next step being downfield in the other direction
3) You’ll notice that a dodge looks a lot like a cradle. If you have trouble dodging start working your cradle.

Girl’s Lacrosse Face Dodgehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa38gXAdnPQ

Points of Emphasis:
1) Feet shoulder width apart with good balance
2) Butt down in an athletic stance
3) For girls, remember the ABCDs of lacrosse defense
